This is a very well designed machine. Does exactly what it should do, nothing more, nothing less. Those who claim to have problems with their machine either have a linkage adjusted incorrectly or don't know how to use it effectively. It has plenty of power to remove the heaviest of snow. My only wish is that it had a faster reverse speed and a shoot that would rotate beyond 90° from the straight forward position. But those are both safety issues I guess. Quick Tip: Snow that has been driven over by cars can be difficult to remove completely by snow blowers and snow plows, its best to have everyone home before the snow starts or blow the driveway before you expect someone to return or leave.

I purchased the Ariens 24 inch Platinum in April 2014. Since the North East has been getting heavy snow falls over the past several years, I felt it was time to retire my 10 year old 22 inch Craftsman snow blower and buy something more suitable. After some research, I liked the advertising that the Ariens products offered. Even before I received the machine I was having trouble. First, the snow blower was delivered damaged and the gas tank had to replaced. Since there was no snow in April, I stored the machine until November 2014. I took it out of storage but it would not start. I had to have it serviced, at my cost when the tech could not start it , and it had not even been used once. Then, January 26, 2015, a major storm. 20" +. Anxious to use the machine, it started on the first pull, ran for five minutes and died. I paid over $1500.00 for the machine and accessories and its back in the shop being serviced (probably at my cost again) after the tech could not start it on site. Based on my experience, I would have to say this product is unreliable.

Comments about Ariens Platinum 24 SHO:

I have used the snow thrower one year. The machine is awesome, but I did have a belt problem. The front belt was not aligned perfectly when I engaged the augur drive, I noticed the engine outside the belt cover was black. Upon removing the cover the front belt was almost completely destroyed in my first use. As I had just purchased the machine I took it back to the dealer and the belt was replaced and adjusted. Still not perfect, because the auger still turns even after disengaging the right controls. I hope there is a maintenance fix or recall for this so the belt alignment can be perfect like the rest of the snow thrower. The Auto Turn is a must have, the ability to turn with like effort even in 10+ inches of snow is irreplaceable. The hand warmers are nice to have when outside long. The Quick turn chute is flawless and the name speaks to how easy it is to use.
Fixing the front belt alignment will make this snow thrower hands down the best overall.

Not Happy

Comments about Ariens Platinum 24 SHO:

Unit performed very well in our Boston area snowstorms this winter.
However, when I went to put it away for the season in April the recoil pull rope let go. Called dealer they said I would need to wait to August for them to work on it. Snowthrower season was over.

Even under warranty it will cost me $75 for them to pickup and deliver the machine back to me when it is fixed. I bought the machine for Ariens durability. This disappoints me. .

Nothing Stops this Beast

Comments about Ariens Platinum 24 SHO:

My previous Ariens was 30 years old and still ran great..I gave it to my sister when I decided to upgrade. I have a very steep driveway and at the top of the driveway is where the nice man in the town plow truck plows me in. This machine went thru it like nobodies business. It never slowed down and never bogged down. With the Super high output, I have to point the chute down so that I don't throw it onto my neighbors' driveway. And he is about 20ft. away. And I'm not talking that light fluffy snow either. My hands are constantly cold during the winters. I have tried many different gloves and none keep my hands warm. No problem a flick of the switch and my hands think its summer time. And a BIG thank you to whoever designed the self turning. No more lugging the machine around to make a turn. Its like this thing knows where I want it to go...Thank you Ariens for making winter time a little more tolerable...

Good but could be better

Comments about Ariens Platinum 24 SHO:

I bought ariens for its reputation and it's been a so so start. First when I received my unit it had a leaking transfer case so I had my first warranty repair (which did go smoothly) before I even used it. When I did use it in some wet slushy heavy snow, it did have a tendency to ride up the snow banks so I'll probably try some front weight kits next year. Also, it does not make a clean path, I looks like the tires are knocking down the snow along the edges as it goes. It is powerful, and didn't bog down at all, and the light, heated grips and electric start were amazing. Just some unexpected quirks especially from a $1400 machine.

Solid, good performer - wrong control panel from factory

By

from Logan, UT

Site Member

Comments about Ariens Platinum 24 SHO:

After discovering that the control panel from a hydrostatic drive blower (it did not have detents for speed control) had been erroneously installed at the factory, and hauling it to the nearest dealer and waiting for 2 weeks for the parts arrived, then hauling it back -- it performed very well.

The position of the light on the blower could be better, the arc of the beam is partially blocked due to the position. The heated grips are great, the quality is rock solid (no plastic chutes!) and she starts on the first pull, every time even in the worst weather. It has good maneuverability, my wife can operate it just fine.

Had it not been the initial bad experience, I would be delighted. Ariens did stand behind and own the issue, covering the costs and labor of replacing the wrong panel -- I give them 5 stars for that -- I just do not like having to rent a trailer to haul snow-blowers twice to get it to the dealership.

A couple of problems, but generally good

By

Comments about Ariens Platinum 24 SHO:

Purchase, delivery and assembly was very smooth.
Starting and operating is also good.

I have 3 problems: 1) It took me awhile to figure out that poor performance was due to a broken shear pin on one of the rotors. Now I know to check the shear pins every time I get grumpy with performance. I wish there was some sensor that would alert the operator. 2) The linkage that rotates the chute requires frequent tightening to preclude the chute rotating on its own. 3) Draining the fuel tank for summer storage is a challenge. Surely a drain plug would be possible.

I purchase an Ariens Platinum 30 with AX414 engine new from Home Depot. Overall the product is awesome. If you are not mechanically able, you will need to hire somebody that is mechanical to setup your new machine. Problems I found and repaired on my new machine: 1) the Primer pump hose rotten, full of cracks and holes and had to be replaced. The chute cables were not adjusted to make the chute function properly and were routed incorrectly, again I repaired. The drive linkage cable and auger linkage cable were not adjusted and the lock nut were not secure, again I repaired. The skid plates/feet were not adjusted to where the scraper blade was the only component touching the ground, I had to adjust and repair, Overall the assembly was very poor. I blame Home Depot for the poor assembly. I blame Ariens for the rotted primer pump hose.

Besides the poor assembly, the machine is a fantastic snow blower after I made the many repairs and adjustments.

I bought a Platinum 30" Snowblower with the Quick Turn Chute & 2nd time I used it, all the gear teeth broke/ stripped off. Ariens gave me a new gear and I installed it but, noted their design on the hex rod / instuctions was faulty with only two cotter pins and the washer supplied was not thick enough to permit proper gear teeth engagement /meshing. The problem is when you rotatate the chute, with a heavy snow load there was not enough preload between the mating gear teeth and they would skip /become disenged and break off the teeth. (My gear had 12 broken gear teeth) I solved this problem by machining a custom bronze washer that was about .150" thicker than the skimpy washer Ariens supplied. I also drilled a new hole thru the hex rod behind the handle bar plate face and added a washer / cotter pin to permantly "fix" the gear teeth spacing so the gears would not "Skip" or break off again.

moves snow easily

Comments about Ariens Platinum 30 SHO:

I really am glad that I purchased a snow blower after the previous winter and snowfall that we had. I looked at many different brands and chose the Ariens brand because of the construction and lack of plastic parts. I wanted to purchase one that would outlive me. This blower works great at moving snow. The handwarmers work very well to keep hands toasty warm. The only issue that I had was the transmission linkage fell apart multiple times leaving the snowblower in high gear which makes it impossible to use. My dealer repaired it and said it will work fine now but we didn't have any more snow at that point so I will have to wait for next season to try it out again. Although no hurry to do that. Lol

Even though we had a light winter this I used my Platinum 30 every time it snowed. I used to have trouble getting the end of the driveway after the plows went through, not anymore, this thing eats through snow like a pack of hyena's eating a gazelle. I love my Platinum 30 SHO.

Comments about Ariens Platinum 30 SHO:

This machine throws snow like no other snow blower I have ever seen. It easily threw a 20" drift 50 to 60 feet and even farther if the wind was blowing. The heated hand grips are so warm that you can wear thin jersey gloves and still have warm hands. The easy turn feature is definitely a time saver since you're always moving forward and not moving back and forth to get the next row. Always started right up, hand controls all worked as expected and placed where they should be. Best purchase I've made in a long time. Thanks Ariens, awesome machine!

Comments about Ariens Platinum 30 SHO:

This is my third Ariens snowblower, and I have to say, I wouldn't buy anything else. I previously had a ST826 and can ST1032. Both were excellent blowers. I never had to take either one in for service. Now, I do my own maintenance, but I never had an issue that had to go to the dealer for repairs. This new platinum 30 SHO blower is by far the one I like the best. Thanks to Ariens for the Auto steer which takes the work out of keeping the machine going in a straight direction. My driveway is 700 feet long. The blower has more than enough power for the job. Another thing I like about the Platinum 30 SHO is the way it cleans the end of the driveway. It's balanced better than the ST1032 , putting more weight on the cutting edge, which keeps it from riding up in the hard packed stuff. The only complaint I have is that through the winter, I have to listen to my co-workers complaining about their snow blowers, some who say, it takes them just as long to blow their city driveway as it takes me to do my 700 foot driveway. I just smile because I know the answer to their problem. Go see your nearest Arien dealer.

I live 9 mi. East of Buffalo N. Y. And have 200ft of driveway so I need a dependable snowblower . The first time I had to use it was in our Nov. storm with 3 feet of wet heavy snow . I'm not going to say it was the easiest time I ever had but I was glad I invested the money with a large powerful machine that starts easy and operates easy for its size . The rest of the winter was a piece of cake . I highly recommend this machine and would buy ariens again !

Comments about Ariens Platinum 30 SHO:

I can't say enough good things about this blower. Once I figured out the choke, it starts on the first pull, even down to minus 30. My wife could even start it with the pull rope, we never used the electric start. The deeper (up to a point, as it does have its limits) and heavier the snow the better. This machine is used at 10,000' elevation with annual snow fall of over 400", it's a bit of an overkill on early season powder, but when the heavier later snows arrive, you'll be glad you have the larger engine, plus this larger machine cuts through the packed snow banks at the end of the drive left by the plow drivers with ease. It's a big heavy machine - but it handles well and the hand warmers are nice.

The best point is I don't mind clearing snow with this beast.

The only drawback is that it consumes gasoline like a 71 Cadillac, and its loud, hearing protection is a must and best to use it during normal hours as it will wake everyone in a 1/2 mile radius.

Very satisfied at making the right decision - " Buy new,...

By

Comments about Ariens Platinum 30 SHO:

This is one of the most exceptional machines on the market. One of its prominant features is that it is " Made in the USA!"
Solidly built, perfectly balanced (even though the bucket is heavy), easily manuverable in deep snow, loaded with features. This machine is a true workhorse. It does not want to quit! It just keeps processing snow, no matter how deep or packed down. This past winter proved this to be true.
We all know what we had to put up with, here in the northeast of New England.
This particular machine can throw snow!
Our previous Ariens was lost, due to the engine breaking down, after 18+ yrs. of solid use. So, we decided to purchase a new unit, larger than the one we had, as more HP was needed. When I saw this unit, I just knew it was the one to get. My wife agreed & now my work is litterally cut more than in half. Even with the amount of snow we had this past winter, this machine kept wanting to throw more.
I would suggest, as many previous comments have suggested, that the shute handle be redesigned, as you need to cross your right hand over the dash to work it in the middle of use. Other than that, this machine is totally perfect. I am truly pleased that Ariens has maintained its reputation as the top notch snowblower on the market. We have thouroughly inspected the competition before our purchase & knew the quality, function, dependability & design of the Ariens was far superior. Our friend purchased a competitive's machine & during the first use, encountered a major problem. He purchased a large commercial unit.
Ariens has proven to me that they care about their product, will stand behind it & will continue to develop & improve in the coming years.

Don's Power & Equipment Co. Is the place to go, for customer care & satisfaction. They are expert in every phase of the power equipment business, having spent many years in the industry. I highly recommend purchasing from this reputable dealer. Their showroom is always well stocked & their service is quick & accurate.
You won't go wrong with this company.
I am proud to be an Ariens owner. I am glad I made the right decision.
