I have used the snow thrower one year. The machine is awesome, but I did have a belt problem. The front belt was not aligned perfectly when I engaged the augur drive, I noticed the engine outside the belt cover was black. Upon removing the cover the front belt was almost completely destroyed in my first use. As I had just purchased the machine I took it back to the dealer and the belt was replaced and adjusted. Still not perfect, because the auger still turns even after disengaging the right controls. I hope there is a maintenance fix or recall for this so the belt alignment can be perfect like the rest of the snow thrower. The Auto Turn is a must have, the ability to turn with like effort even in 10+ inches of snow is irreplaceable. The hand warmers are nice to have when outside long. The Quick turn chute is flawless and the name speaks to how easy it is to use.
Fixing the front belt alignment will make this snow thrower hands down the best overall.

I purchased the Ariens 24 inch Platinum in April 2014. Since the North East has been getting heavy snow falls over the past several years, I felt it was time to retire my 10 year old 22 inch Craftsman snow blower and buy something more suitable. After some research, I liked the advertising that the Ariens products offered. Even before I received the machine I was having trouble. First, the snow blower was delivered damaged and the gas tank had to replaced. Since there was no snow in April, I stored the machine until November 2014. I took it out of storage but it would not start. I had to have it serviced, at my cost when the tech could not start it , and it had not even been used once. Then, January 26, 2015, a major storm. 20" +. Anxious to use the machine, it started on the first pull, ran for five minutes and died. I paid over $1500.00 for the machine and accessories and its back in the shop being serviced (probably at my cost again) after the tech could not start it on site. Based on my experience, I would have to say this product is unreliable.

Comments about Ariens Platinum 24 SHO:

I bought a 30 inch Ariens Platinum snow thrower and it was great when it ran. Purchased it the end of January 2013 and used it a few times hat Winter, not more then 15 times in 2014/15 and once this year (15/16) It now sits at the repair shop of an Ariens authorized dealer while Areins attempts to wiggle out of their 3 year warrany.

I love my new machine!

By

from Long Island, New York

Comments about Ariens Platinum 24 SHO:

My first use of the machine was after a blizzard that dropped 18"+ with some nearly 3-foot drifts in my driveway. It performed better than I could have ever imagined! I am very happy with my purchase overall but I need to bring up that gas cap thing. The cap secures far too tightly. Cold, wet gloves and hands made it worse. I had to go inside, dig up a towel and a rubber thing that we use to grip tight jar lids to get the cap open for fuel refills. That fuel cap needs a rework for sure! I would have otherwise rated this machine a solid 5 stars if it were not for the infernal fuel cap issue.

Ariens Platinum 24 SHO model 921038 369cc engine

Comments about Ariens Platinum 24 SHO:

I bought this snowblower over the summer and couldn't wait to put it to work last week during our first snowstorm of the season here in the NY metro burbs. The machine performed very well it threw the snow far and had no trouble on the most difficult test of any snowblower the end of driveway (EOD) plow pile. I have owned a 26 inch blower previously and two 28 inch units and for my current needs I am very happy that I went with the smaller auger size this time around. I always have some cars on my driveway so being able to get into tight places was important and the 24 inch auger size is perfect for such conditions.

The features on this machine like the Quick Turn chute was much easier to use than the over the dash manual crank on the Deluxe series machines that I previously owned. The heated grips were noticeable while my gloves were off and worked well, but I usually will have gloves on when blowing snow. The heated grips may be of more use for those that have really large driveways and will be out for long periods of time.

The engine did seem to go through gas pretty quickly but it is a large 17 ft. Lbs. of torque 369cc motor so kinda of expected. I like the low profile engine design, I think anyone under 5'11" would appreciate the clear over the machine view you get with this newer GEN III LCT low profile engine design.

The one issue I had with the Platinum 24 SHO was the gas cap. I know it sounds like a not worth mentioning minor issue, however I literally spent 5 minutes trying to line the gas cap up to get it back into the grooves to tighten it. The design of the cap is poor and is almost like a radiator cap on a car instead of the usual screw on design, many people just end up taking out the in tank strainer just to put the gas cap on without frustration. This issue with the gas cap prevented me from rating this otherwise excellent machine 5 stars.

I have 6000 to 7000 square feet of driveway. I use an ATV to plow the snow to the edge and then use the 24" platinum SHO machine to throw the snow so I do not lose usable driveway space. I am blowing thick wet heravy snow and this machine does the job well

          A Must Have!

Comments about Ariens Platinum 24 SHO:

After 21 years I decided it was time to replace my old Troy-Bilt with a new blower, the new Troy-Bilt models aren't quite what they used to be which led me to look at an Ariens. I needed a blower that was powerful yet it had to be 24" wide, wow does the Platinum 24 SHO fit the bill. The hand warmers are great, the headlamp is great, the power is amazing, the throwing distance is almost scary, and the auto turn works flawlessly. We just got 33" of snow and I was able to clear out our street and all the driveways on the block with ease. With the long distance tossing of the snow I didn't have to be as fussy about where I was putting it plus you don't end up with piles, the auto turn really saves your back if you have lots of direction changes to make. I wish the gas tank was a little bigger but who cares, I also don't know that I'd recommend this blower to clean up small storms...that's what I bought the Path Pro 208EC for.

I bought the platinum 24 this year after trying my friends 32 inch last winter. I did not need the 32 inch but the snowblower i had would bascially rattle itself apart and i was constantly messing with the thumb screws on the deflector. I really wanted the ability to control the deflector from the handle bar and i wanted a chute that would turn fast and easy right to left. Everythign i wanted was delivered in the platinum. The distance that the machine throws snow is quite impressive.

Purchased 24" Platinum Show unit this past summer for Rochester NY winters. Had my 1st Ariens from 1976- 2014. The features on the Platinum Show unit and how the unit was made sold me on my purchase. I checked all the competitors (big Box too), they did not have all the great features of Ariens, so purchased another Ariens as my new replacement unit. Also,Brodner Equipment (Rochester dealer) , Mike and Tim spent an hour with me explaining the product and the service they provided. Very "Happy" with my Purchase

Comments about Ariens Platinum 24 SHO:

This machine is the same as the Platinum unit I purchased a year ago, except this new machine has a larger engine. I gave my "old one" to my son. All I can say is last Winter we had 4.5 inches of snow in our front yard. It snowed heavy throughout January and February 2015, usually 12 inches or more at a shot. Mostly dry snow, but in February some heavy wet snow. My earlier machine (identical to this one except a smaller engine), did NOT plug up once even in wet snow. It also had no problem clearing packed snow around our mail box, etc., thanks to town snow trucks. Now compared to my "really old" Ariens with the old-style 4 blades in the impeller that actually shoots the snow, this one has 3 blades. 3 blades make work far better, EVEN in one storm with 15 inches of snow I had no problems. Love the heated grips AND the ability to turn the machine manually with ease. My driveway is about 85 feet long so I have lots of snow to move.

I purchase an Ariens Platinum 30 with AX414 engine new from Home Depot. Overall the product is awesome. If you are not mechanically able, you will need to hire somebody that is mechanical to setup your new machine. Problems I found and repaired on my new machine: 1) the Primer pump hose rotten, full of cracks and holes and had to be replaced. The chute cables were not adjusted to make the chute function properly and were routed incorrectly, again I repaired. The drive linkage cable and auger linkage cable were not adjusted and the lock nut were not secure, again I repaired. The skid plates/feet were not adjusted to where the scraper blade was the only component touching the ground, I had to adjust and repair, Overall the assembly was very poor. I blame Home Depot for the poor assembly. I blame Ariens for the rotted primer pump hose.

Besides the poor assembly, the machine is a fantastic snow blower after I made the many repairs and adjustments.

I bought a Platinum 30" Snowblower with the Quick Turn Chute & 2nd time I used it, all the gear teeth broke/ stripped off. Ariens gave me a new gear and I installed it but, noted their design on the hex rod / instuctions was faulty with only two cotter pins and the washer supplied was not thick enough to permit proper gear teeth engagement /meshing. The problem is when you rotatate the chute, with a heavy snow load there was not enough preload between the mating gear teeth and they would skip /become disenged and break off the teeth. (My gear had 12 broken gear teeth) I solved this problem by machining a custom bronze washer that was about .150" thicker than the skimpy washer Ariens supplied. I also drilled a new hole thru the hex rod behind the handle bar plate face and added a washer / cotter pin to permantly "fix" the gear teeth spacing so the gears would not "Skip" or break off again.

I have 1/4 mile driveway that is part paved and part gravel. This machine just rolled through our latest 20" snow without a stumble. Very impressive machine. You wont be disappointed.

After having a smaller Ariens snowblower for a while I upgraded to the larger more powerful Platinum 30, spending a ridiculous amount of money. It didn't work properly the day it was delivered. I had to pick it up and return it. Dealer "fixed it". I got it back and it had the same problem. Well over a month later, after I had to load it up and return it, that problem was fixed.

Finally needed to use it. Hard to start, but I got it going. machine was essentially unusable because it will not move in a straight line. Again, I had to load it and return it. Waiting to hear if it can be fixed. I hope it doesn't snow...

Finally a snow blower that can handle the monster storms

Comments about Ariens Platinum 30 SHO:

This is my third snow blower. The first was a 179 CC Yard Machine brand and the second a 208 CC Craftsman. They were good for most of the snowfalls we have but couldn't handle the deep snows. In this area you have maybe 5 - 10 snowfalls a year at most but about every 5 - 6 years we get a monster one. I bought the Platinum 30 in Feb 2014 specifically to handle the occasional huge storm so this is the third winter with it. We just got 36 inches of snow dropped on us last weekend. This snow blower had no problem clearing my driveway even though the snow was over the the auger housing the whole time (even over the drift busters). The 414 CC engine never struggled or bogged down once.
It has always started on the first or second pull. You do have to watch that you don't throw snow up on your roof (single story house anyway).
The Auto turn feature works well even for a machine this large.
The only cons I can think of:

The choke and throttle controls are dial instead of levers - takes some getting used to.
The chute deflector is on a separate joy stick from the left/right chute control joy stick - my Craftsman had a single joy stick for chute control. The chute occasionally sticks some but it hasn't been any big deal to free it.

This is the perfect snow blower the deep snowfalls (over 18 inches) - worth every penny I paid for it. Eats up the packed snow the plows leave at the end of your driveway without a hitch. For anything under 14 inches its overkill but when you get the deep snow you will be glad you bought it.

Purchased this high end snowblower in 2011because I wanted a quality machine that I could depend on.

The chute is difficult to operate. I'm told by my local dealer there is an update kit to correct the design flaw that causes it to hang but I have to pay to install it.

The larger issue is three short seasons, one of which the snow blower wasn't used at all and another it was barely used, the machine is shot. It appears poor design resulted in friction against the traction drive spring causing it to fail which in turn caused the friction plate to get a flat spot. My dealer tells me that this in turn may damage the drive wheel. The cost to repair the damage by the failure of the spring that costs a few bucks is several hundred dollars.

I contacted Ariens and they denied the issue as being a known issue. Which, of course, makes the problem worse because I don't know if the issue will be a reoccurring one in which case I'll be stuck with snow on the driveway and constantly taking it in for repair.

I really am glad that I purchased a snow blower after the previous winter and snowfall that we had. I looked at many different brands and chose the Ariens brand because of the construction and lack of plastic parts. I wanted to purchase one that would outlive me. This blower works great at moving snow. The handwarmers work very well to keep hands toasty warm. The only issue that I had was the transmission linkage fell apart multiple times leaving the snowblower in high gear which makes it impossible to use. My dealer repaired it and said it will work fine now but we didn't have any more snow at that point so I will have to wait for next season to try it out again. Although no hurry to do that. Lol

A good strong machine that will toss snow 50' for hours. I strongly recommend tire chains for traction though. But with chains this machine will go where any tracked snow-blower will.
