Rated 5 out of 5 by John Excellent Overall. We've had above average snowfall here in south eastern MA. After the first snowfall that dumped 24" I decided I needed a good snow blower. My driveway is about 210' long and about 15' wide at the base and 25' wide at the top. I also have two side lots that total about 2000 sq ft. and about 250' of sidewalks/paths. All need to be snowless!! I went on the internet forums and did some research and figured that the Ariens Hydro Pro 28 was a good fit for my needs. Unfortunately, there were none to be found in my area because of the high demand. Rather than put my name on a waiting list, I bought one and had it shipped from Minnesota. I ordered it on a Wednesday and received it the following Monday. I was suprised that the unit came about 95% assembled in the box. The rest of the assembly entailed putting on the chute and controls, checking fluids and making a number of adjustments. My unit was set up very well right from the factory and only required minimal adjustment. I have about 7 hours on the Hydro Pro 28. Changing the oil is very easy. (You have to do this at the 5hr mark to get rid of the break in oil.) The Hydro Pro 28 comes with electric start but I haven't tried it yet. It almost always starts on the first pull. If it doesn't start on the first, it does on the second. The unit works as it does in the Youtube videos. I had contemplated buying a 32" or 36" but the 28" does the job well and gets into places where a 32" or 36" would have trouble. I figured having the most powerful engine running the smallest auger would be a good combination. After using it, I believe it is. It removes fresh snow effortlessly. I did have some tire slippage when removing the mounds of ice/snow mixture that the municipal plow trucks leave at the bottom of my driveway. Therefore, I've ordered some tire chains to help with that. I also replaced the steel skid shoes with the non-abrasive type. Also, I really wish that it would go in reverse faster. All in ll this is a great machine and if maintained properly should last for decades. February 17, 2015

by jack Endless Snow on Cape Cod 2015 my driveway is over 200 yards and cannot be plowed due to curves and large rhododendrons along side. My Ariens 32" had been really put to the test this year. My landscaper comes to do my driveway with it but each time he arrived this year, I had already completed it. its way too much fun and much to important to not let winter win. Love it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by Wayne Simply The Best ! Throughout the years we have had several snow blowers to deal with ALL the snow we get here in the snow belt of southwestern ,Ontario. Although we have had a few Ariens in the past ,a MTD and a John Deere ,this Ariens Hydro Pro is simply the best . It will handle any type of snow with ease..works effortlessly and is surprisingly quieter than most machines. To date we have not experienced any issues with it. The neighbours are envious of just how quickly it will remove the snow and toss it so far if need be. We wondered about the Hydro static to begin with as to whether it was worth the extra dollars..well after one use we will not be going back to the standard operation types...it is fantastic. My wife if need be can handle this blower with ease .It turns on a dime. The features of the chute make it easy to turn and adjust . It is solid and built to last it appears and so far we have no reason to believe otherwise. The hand warmer is an added feature with an ideal temperature in the cold we have had.Lastly the operation of the drive lever combined with the auger lever leave one hand free to adjust the height of the chute or its direction or your overall speed. This is simply the best snow blower you can find right now....no plastics...just a solid powerful machine built to last and to give you satisfaction in your snow removal tasks. I use to hate to see the snow fall and prepare to have it removed..now it is "bring on the snow"......we are ready and waiting. Go Ariens Go!!! February 3, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Robert Another excellent Ariens Sno Thro I purchased a home last summer and began looking at the Ariens line up last fall. Having previously owned a 1992 model ST 824 that still performs flawlessly today I knew Ariens was the only option. I felt that living in northern MN I needed the power and features of the pro series. After looking at the features of the hydro pro 28 I opted to order one. It came in during a 30 plus inch storm in December last year (2013) and my dealership was able to get it in and set up. This machine is a beast. Nothing slowed it down. The hydro feature is great allowing smooth speed and direction changes on the fly. The auto turn is flawless. The dealership showed my how to adjust the shoot which I did need to do on 2 occasions, no problem. If your looking at a new sno thro spend the extra dollars for an exceptional machine, after all its a 20 plus year investment. August 28, 2014

by Ryan Excellent power and features I spent a considerable amount of time evaluating the competitors before choosing the Hydro Pro 28. Ultimately, nothing had the power, durability or features that the Hydro Pro had in one package. I wanted a big motor, at least a 14” impeller and the ability to maneuver in tough places. Living in a congested neighborhood in New England, I have a significant amount of snow to clear and only so many places to put it. With the power this machine has I have the ability to throw it as far as I need to. With the controls I can put it anywhere I want and with the hydrostatic transmission and Auto-Turn, I can easily move this machine around my hilly driveway and retaining walls with almost surgical precision. I did install an aftermarket cab for fighting the elements and an Ariens baffle kit. I put a coat of wax on the machine and added some clear mask to wear surfaces to prolong the life of the finish. Very impressed with the machine and happy with the value.

Rated 5 out of 5 by William expensive, but you get what you pay for! I looked and researched many different snow throwers for a long time before deciding to shell out the cash for the very best I could find, and it appears that it has paid off. Everything on this machine seems well designed and built. A common problem with snow throwers is plugging up on wet snow. This machine has no such issue. It powers through the wet slushy stuff as well as any drifts you drive it into and just asks for more! The hydro drive was well worth the extra cost as it is so smooth and easy to start/stop and change speed on the go, smooth as silk. The auto turn differential on the drive wheels worked exactly as described. I've read other reviews where some have had issue with the chute direction control sticking or not staying where you put it. No such issue here. Mine worked perfect from the start. The included manual has a section describing how to fine tune the control cable setting to alleviate any such issues, but mine needed no adjustment. Read the manual, it covers a lot of good information about this machine. The only issue I've read about in other reviews may be the mounting angle of the light. When you tip the machine slightly back to raise the front, the light does shine right in the operators eyes. A small deflector shroud to direct it all forward would solve this easily. A switch to shut the light off when not needed would also be a nice touch. Thanks Ariens for a great machine! February 3, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Loren High marks for after sale service I have a previous review down below, but this is a good time to relay how my Ariens dealer and Ariens support their products and customers.I had a problem with the snowblower drive system, the service department at my dealer diagnosed it to the drive chain. Now, having a problem is one thing, how it gets handled is what matters. The dealer went a long way out of their usual pickup zone to get the machine to take back to the shop, and promptly let me know what the issue was. They and Ariens teamed up to investigate a solution to the drive chain issues, and apparently a retrofit kit is available to resolve this. My dealer had a couple of concerns about the kit, went back to Ariens, ans some additional work was done to arrive at the final version of the kit. After getting the snowblower back from service, and using it in a foot of heavy wet snow, the drive system now feels as though it was borrowed from a tank. Rock solid. There are not many instances I know of these days where the manufacturer and the dealer team up to this level of service, I am duly impressed. The whole job was covered 100% in warranty, with no questions, even the time and mileage for the out of area pickup.Good job to Ariens, and Boston Lawnmower for excellence above and beyond the call. My fourth Ariens purchase from Boston Lawnmower, there is a good reason why. There is still no replacement for displacement! April 5, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by guy maranda very good product after 4 months of winter i am impressed with this snow blower .it like to report that more weight should be added on the bucket permitting a better traction and less effort to maintain a clear pathway .also the cable connecting the chute should be attached in such a way that it does not detach itself easily . the light angle should be angled downards.the slip clutch works very well but in reverse the mouvement is slow compared to the disk model .thank you . guy maranda quebec city . Rated 5 out of 5 by Michael This is a serious machine for serious snow removel...period ! I have lived in Maine all my life and have always used sonwblowers...of all types. I bought a 28 hydro this year ( big snow year in Maine ) and cannot believe this machine ! After a 30" storm i had to use the drift cutters ( never used them before ) and that machine had no problem at all...never even lugged down ! The Hydro is awesome and i would highly recommend it to anyone who deals with serious snowfall. As an aside , I wasn't going to spend the extra money to go Hydro but the shop owner told me i was making a mistake. I'm so glad that he talked me into the Hydro.... April 2, 2013
