I was able to try out my new Ariens Deluxe 24 this week with the first big snow of the year. Put it to the test with about 8 inches of snow and drifts just under two feet. Machine performance met all my expectations. I read all the reviews and compared with other machines and felt this was the right choice for the long term. Blower never bogged down even with the heavy snow at the end of the driveway. Shoot controls were excellent and I was changing constantly trying to manage good snow placement with high winds. Blower started the same with temps in the teens as it did with temps in the 60's. Great product. Buy an Ariens.

Finally decided to move on from my 25 year old Eaton brand snowblower with Tecumseh engine. Bought the Deluxe 24 two weeks ago. On my second use this week (2 hrs total), the drive system stopped working. I opened it up and there is a 4-5" spring that broke. I had researched long and hard to determine what brand and unit to buy. I am so very disappointed that a brand new blower broke so easily. I now have to bring it to the closest dealer (40 min drive each way) and meanwhile I used my 25 year old blower to finish my driveway. I might simply return the Ariens.

Comments about Ariens Deluxe 24:

I have used many a snow blower in my days but used this for the first time in upstate NY in 10" of wet heave snow. Had to use the slowest speed but it had no issues on a 100 foot long driveway. It throws snow about 40 feet out so no worries about snow banks. Hand warmers worked fantastic. Now on the con side- headlight is marginal and it has a small gas tank. Had to refill once. It did get clogged once but that is not unusual with a wet heavy. Auto turn makes it very easy to handle.

    Nicest snowblower I've owned

        Comments about Ariens Deluxe 24:

This is my first Ariens and I am happy with the purchase. I bought it last Fall and used it several times over the winter. We didn't get many snowstorms but enough for me to form an opinion of this rig. It's smoother and a little quieter than the others I've owned over the last 20 years (MTD, Craftsman, Troy-built). It's also easy to turn. It doesn't have a fancy joystick for rotating the discharge chute, but I actually much prefer the Ariens mid-rod crank over the joystick on the Cub Cadet and some others I tried. The chute elevation control is on the "dash" and works well - that is a big plus for me over my old snowblowers, which all had to be adjusted manually. The automatic wheel clutches work well when turning. One thing I especially appreciate is the robust throwing distance, which helps me when clearing the wide parking area near my house. I haven't had the Ariens long enough to be sure about reliability, but have had no problems so far, and it seems solid and well-designed. I have a steep, long driveway and having a good snowblower is important to me. So far I feel I made a good choice with the Ariens.

          Comments about Ariens Deluxe 24:

I had my 10 year old Ariens Classic 24's gearbox stripped out and brought it in to replace the gearbox which would be about 3 weeks before I would get it back. Because we were getting a lot of snow I decided to buy the Deluxe 24 so I wouldn't get behind. I was able immediately to tell the differences between the two. The 3 benefits to the Deluxe was it was quieter, and threw the snow a little farther and you could adjust the throw from the panel. The disadvantages are my arms were way more tired because of the weight shifted to the front which made it feel much more heavy. I don't like the auto steer at all which made it more difficult to keep going straight when it would catch on something. I only need positraction when I'm clearing piles of snow that slid off the metal roof. I wish the Deluxe would allow to disengage the positraction for the 90% of the time I didn't need it. My Classic had the newer heavier duty gear box installed and after 2.5 hours or so my arms were not nearly as tired as with the Deluxe. Also I had to refill the gas tank in order to finish the job where the Classic had gas left over after I was finished. The main negative on my Classic is the Tecumseh is pretty loud. Lastly, I would have liked if the newer Deluxe's throwing angle was more than 180 degrees like my Classic to throw the snow a little behind me when I needed to.

Having used an Ariens for years and having always been satisfied with the product, I did not hesitate to buy another, when the time came. I'm a little older, so something a littler smaller and a little more maneuverable was desired, and the new Ariens Deluxe 24" Snow Blower did not disappoint. It does an incredibly good job on snow removal and turning the blower around, which had always been a chore, is now something special.

I chose the Ariens Deluxe 28 after researching all makes and models. The decision was clear for the following reasons: (random order)

                  1) 14" serrated augers and 14" impeller. 14" moves more snow faster.

2# The impeller housing and chute is all steel. Other makes, even with steel chutes, have a plastic piece on the impeller housing connecting to the chute. Ariens is solid thick steel. It will not break, clog, or flex.

3# Top fill commercial grade cast iron gear box. Other makes with split aluminium cases appeared to have gasket mist on the seam whilst sitting unused on the showroom floor.

                  4) Auto-turn. I cannot stress enough how much I like this feature. I can zero turn with one hand. No axle pins or triggers needed. If I want to go left or right, I go left or right. No more effort than a shopping cart. Once the turn is complete, both wheels automatically lock and drive. If you could test drive throwers, this alone could seal the deal. Other manufacturers will follow with the same feature in due time.

                  5) Steel dash. I didn't think it an issue until I used it. It looks very nice and of high quality. Other makes with plastic notches, for gear and chute deflection, flex and have poor fitment.

                  6) Fit, finish, and paint. I found a noticeable superiority in quality of the Ariens. The metal feels and sounds thicker. The welds are uniform. The paint is absolutely flawless. I have seen cars with less quality paint finish. The decaling is flawless, shiny, and appears a cut above other makes. If comparing manufacturers, I suggest visiting a showroom and feeling and tapping the throwers. The images on the internet can't differentiate the fit and finish like a tactile inspection.

                  7) The ergonomics of the controls is perfect. The speed and chute deflection controls are to the right of the dash. The auger control locks with the drive control allowing the right hand to be free. Most makes have this feature, but the controls are close at hand on the Ariens. The chute rotation handle is ahead of the dash rather than behind as on most makes. It seemed odd at first sight but proved to be superior in use.

                  8) Excellent tires. The tires are large and grip with deep treads. There is no need for chains.

                  9) The headlight is halogen. It is not all illuminating, but a halogen bulb is a step up from the typical 1156 incandescent automotive tail light bulb on other makes. Small improvement but indicative of the quality goal Ariens is thriving to achieve.

I have used the Deluxe 28 during several heavy snows. It is thus far without a fault. It throws far and with minimal blow back, even into the wind. I attribute the minimal blow back to superior chute design. It is higher and better shaped. I don't see a need for a snow cab.

The 254cc engine is powerful and handled all tasks. I found it surprisingly quiet compared to a Tecumseh Snow King. Thus far the engine seems to be fuel efficient. I have read many reviews and blogs regarding country of origin for snow engines. The debate is pointless. All current snow engines from all makes are made in China. Engines are designed in USA and built in China to USA manufacturers specifications. This is a socio-economic issue, not a quality issue. The Ariens AX #LCT#, Briggs Polar Force, and Powermore engines all have similar architecture and performance. All modern engines benefit from modern metallurgical advances and technologies that far exceed the ancient and now defunct standard, Tecumseh Snow King. The engine is no longer a deciding factor in a snow thrower. They are all equally good and of similar power and cc.

The electric start is a standard feature on all throwers worth looking at. I used it once because it was there. In reality, the engines start so easily with the recoil pull string, that it seemed more time and effort to use the electric starter. With age, wear, and cold, #me and machine# I'm sure the electric start will come into it's own.

When I inspected my Deluxe 28 I sensed a pride in manufacture as evident by numerous grease pencil markings on the machine. Somewhere, somebody will blog a complaint about grease pencil markings on their new machine. Those marks are a hard working man or woman's signature. A signature that Ariens takes the time to check the unit was properly made. That worker takes pride in their job and the product they make. Their job puts food on the family table and fills them with pride. I will not remove the marks.

I find it a rare and pleasant surprise when a product sold is of a satisfactory quality. All too often consumers are forced to choose which product is less junk. It is a shock when a product exceeds all expectations. Ariens exceeded my expectation. I am confident I chose the right manufacturer.

Finally, I would recommend any and all small engine machine purchases be made from an independent dealer. My machine was delivered to my garage. Not only was it fully assembled, but the shoes and scraper bar were set for my driveway type. The controls were all adjusted. The belt break-in was completed and the machine tested. I paid no more than the big box store. I have nothing against big box stores but they shouldn't be everything to everybody.

This was a glowing review from a person whom must be compelled by excellence to write a review. I hope my machine continues to be of quality and reliability.

After much research and a recommendation from a close friend I decided to purchase an Ariens Model 28" Deluxe. I was completely satisfied for the first three hours of use. During hour four of use, the tensioner spring for the drive idler broke. I could not a replacement spring from the store I purchased it from, however, they offered to exchange the whole unit for a new unit. Upon getting the second unit home I filled it with gas only to find the gas ran through the carburator and onto the floor. Again I hauled the unit nearly 60 miles back to town to get yet a third unit. Upon getting the third unit home, I found it had numerous fasteners loose (some were crossthreaded), none of the controls were adjusted properly, the spring to push the top chute open was not strong enough ( or needed adjusting), it was difficult to start, and then it went backwards while in 1st gear. After about an hour of usage I found a bolt laying on the ground where I had been working. I returned this unit as well.

I couldn't wait to step up to an Ariens. Had used a few in different locations and knew how well-made they were. After special ordering mine mid-winter from my local Biddeford dealer, I realized that I could not keep it going in a straight line. With the Autosteer, any variation in snow depth, density or change in pavement would make it dart wildly left or right. I also felt that it was geared too fast for 1st gear. It would stall in the plow furrow at the end of the drive. I had the dealer check it out a couple of times with no better results. Ariens support was no support at all. They put all the responsibility on the dealer. He did tell me that he would take it back toward another model in the fall when he received the next shipment. After six phone calls and four trips with the Deluxe 28 to the dealer to make the trade all he could do was say that he wasn't in business to lose money and would try to sell it as a used machine for me. After a few weeks I picked it back up and sold it myself for half what I paid. No more Ariens or local dealer for me.

I purchased our home in August and knew my first major purchase was going to be a snow thrower. After research and talking with friends I knew the Ariens was the way to go. Purchased the Deluxe 28+ and do not regret it. Had several storms and of course the Blizzard of 2013. We got 27 inches plus in CT. Could not wait to use the machine. No problems at all. Pushed right through the snow and threw it no problems. Had great traction. Heated handgrips were nice especially with the wind chill and the snow freezing up and coating the machine. Easy to use. Even had the wife making a few passes. But I quickly took it back because I was having too much fun. Would recommend this to anyone who wants great value and an even better machine.

For snow blowing, the 921037 does what I'd expect. It has done a good job handling several foot-plus snowfalls, which is what I expected from a machine of this size/class.

My big issue with the 921037 are leaking oil drain plugs (part number 20001303). My machine was delivered with a leaking oil drain plug, the one at the end of the extension tube. Subsequently the "dead" plug on the other side of the machine — a part you'd never have to interact with — started leaking. I find it ridiculous that a machine of this price has these defective parts — defective in design, defective in manufacture, defective in installation, whatever the case. I wish I had not made this purchase.

My experience fixing the first oil drain plug was a mess. Ariens technical support advised torque specifications to apply to ensure the plug was tight. My application of a torque wrench resulted in the oil drain washer snapping, and the extension tube threads shearing off inside the engine block. I had to have a local dealer remove the threads and replace the extension tube. I asked the dealer if he'd ever use a torque wrench on the plug or tube and he said no, in his experience these parts should be tightened by hand.

Even with a new plug installed, this time threaded with pipe tape, I've had another leak occur. To also have the "dead" plug on the other side start leaking, when a user wouldn't even need to touch this piece, only adds insult to injury. As I write this I still haven't resolved the other leak, and my attached photos show what the leak looks like.

Comments about Ariens Deluxe 28 SHO:

Unlike my former blower the 28 SHO handles and throws any type of snow well clear of the drive. This was previously a problem at the end of the drive where snow banks became unmanageable due to road plowing and inability of the other machine to adequately clear and throw the snow. The power of the 28 SHO also allows me to clear up and down a relatively steep drive in short order. My other machine could rarely make it up the drive without propelling on a cleared path. The Ariens is a great machine.

Bought this sno thro Oct.30 2015,traded my deluxe 24 for it.The deluxe 24 was a good machine but I wanted the auto turn and some more width and treated myself to the heated handgrips I've used it twice so far. First storm, dry snow threw that snow far with the wind, wasn't real cold but I put the heated hand grips on they work good.Second storm wet snow no wind SHO threw that wet snow far my neighbor was stuggling with his Yamaha he might get an Ariens in the future. I like the auto turn feature. It has served me well for time I've had it. Gas tip, I always treat my gas with seafoam even though it is premium gas,up here in Winnipeg premium gas has no ethanol I've done this for a few years now and will use this gas in my mower all summer long.

I have a very long driveway. Since we had gotten more snow than was manageable last year, we bought this snow blower to help us in addition to the plow that we have on our truck. It works great for that

Comments about Ariens Deluxe 28 SHO:

I have been a loyal Ariens Sno-Thro customer for thirty-two years. This Deluxe 28 SHO is the third Ariens Sno-Thro I have purchased, having previously owned an ST824 (lasted 29 years) and an ST28LE. I traded in the ST28LE after just two years as I was disappointed with the performance. The wheels were too small and the hand lever differential lock out was cumbersome. The machine was difficult to turn and the small tires did not provide good traction. I purchased the 2015 Deluxe 28 SHO to get a larger engine, auto turn feature and higher output impeller.
Dealer delivered unit two days before our first heavy 11" wet snow on 11/21. I was eager to test the new machine in the heavy snow. After firing the unit up, and letting it run for a few minutes to warm up, I began clearing the driveway. After just 12 minutes of operation, the blower attachment drive belt completely shredded. I had only made four passes on my long driveway and was forced to shovel the two thirds remaining. Disappointing to say the least after spending the extra money on what is supposed to be a premium, category leading machine.
My dealer came first thing on Monday and picked the unit up. After two weeks, he called to tell me that he was working with Ariens on a fix. Shredding a drive belt can only be due to misaligned pulleys. The Ariens' factory recommended fix was the installation of a spacer on the pulley shaft to align the pulleys. After receiving this fix, Ariens could not supply a new belt as they were backordered. After an additional week, Ariens took a belt off of the assembly line and sent it to the dealer to get my unit back up and running. Thanks to El Nino, we had no significant snowfall during this three week period. My dealer was great throughout the ordeal and promised to deliver a loaner if a strong storm was forecast. After finally getting a belt, he tested the unit extensively and delivered it to the house. We have had only one significant snow since and it operated fine.

I have been wanting an Ariens snow throw for years so I finally put up the dough and bought one and I'll tell ya what it's everything I expected, especially after using a 5hp 24 inch which took 2 hours to get that snow removed, this Deluxe 30 will get the job done on my lot in 30 to 45 minutes tops and that's even with blowing the street clear to the main road so me and the neighbors can get to work the next morning, this thing powers through the heaviest of snow without any engine bog, I live on the snow belt of Northern Michigan and how I managed with that little 5 horse is beyond me, I don't have to worry about that anymore, anyone interested in an Ariens Snow Throw can be rest assured it will be a solid investment.

I recently bought the new Deluxe 30 model. The last Ariens snowblower I had was an 32" STR series from mid-1990s. This was a great machine but I decided this year to buy another one rather than repair the old one. The following are the comparative design changes that make the new version a horrible machine to operate:
                                          1. the return springs on both handles have too much tension on them, so that your hands get tired if you are gdoing a large job. My wife now refuses to use the machine because her hands are tired after 20 minutes;
                                          2. the chute rotating mechanism is mounted on the left side so that you have to either reach across the machine to use it, which is difficult to do, or stop moving to make an adjustment;
                                          3. the new narrow wheels (compared to the old wide tires) make the machine difficult to control on anything other than a flat surface. The machine gets pulled by even small ruts or bumps to either side because both the wheels and the wheel base is too narrow.
                                          4. the auto-assist turning mechanism makes the issue of control even worse; so, as the machine is grabbed by ruts and bumps, the auto-turn mechanism thinks you are trying to turn, cuts in and accentuates the problem.

Blowing a straight line with this machine on anything other than a ciomplatekly flat surface is not possible and so you end up fighting the machine instead of simply walking along behind it. This model is a big disappointment and I am going to sell it, and take my loss as soon as I can.

I was excited to get my new snow blower. Well, that disappeared quickly! I only used it 3 times due to the warm season we've had and the discharge chute stopped working. I'd turn the handle and nothing. I had to pay $45 out of pocket to have it picked up and I'm waiting to hear if I'll be stuck with more charges. So far this has been a lousy experience with Ariens.

After 25 years of faithful service form my 10HP/32" Craftsman snow thrower I felt it was time to invest in a new machine. In addition to the Ariens Deluxe, I looked at HONDA - way too much money and difficult to handle, Cub Cadet - didn't see the need for 3-stage that I also felt may put too much strain on differential and all those other flimsy private branded snow throwers from somewhere 'offshore'. My neighbor has a small landscaping company and recommended the Areins. That was all I need to justify spending the extra money for the Areins. After yesterday's 40+cm snowfall I am sure that I made the correct choice.

                                                      Comments about Ariens Deluxe 30:

I live in the country with over 200 yds of driveway. Usually the ATV plow can handle the work, but when it blows and we get big drifts, we're stuck. Luckily we decided to get a snowblower this year. The first snow around Thanksgiving was a blizzard. The ATV got about 5 ft out of the garage. -- Hip-deep drifts - So I cranked up the snow blower and it went thru it like a knife through butter. After I got our drive done, I let my neighbor use it and he did his drive (about the same length).
Only have 2 challenges to the Ariens engineers: 1. Gas tank is a bit too small. (Had to lug my 5 gal can of gas a bunch of times to fill it up.) 2. Works great in wet snow (like our first blizzard). But here in Colorado, we usually get dry powder, and when the wind blows it into drifts, it packs it so tight, I have to chop up the snow so the machine can eat it up. The machine will not penetrate dry snow drifts. It just rides on top of the drift.

                                                      Comments about Ariens Deluxe 30:

This is my 3rd Ariens snow thrower. They have all been excellent. The deluxe 30 was an upgrade to a machine that I was very happy with, due to purchasing a larger property. It has worked as expected, excellent.
