I bought my first zero-turn in 2001, a 62-inch Toro commercial Z. It lasted 15 years and was $7,000. In early April of 2016, after a solid 3 months of researching commercial and prosumer mowers, I bought an Ariens Max Zoom 60. To say I have been delighted would be an understatement. Since I have just under 15 hours on the machine, I will reserve judgment on reliability a bit longer. The Max Zoom 60 is very well engineered and constructed, and the materials seem to be good quality. In my opinion, Ariens could do a much better job or promoting the virtues of this machine. I used to have a small landscaping business and I know users of so-called high end Zs made my Scag, Exmark, Ferris, and the like probably don't think much about the Max Zoom 60, but I bet they can't justify their prejudice either. As for performance, we got a lot of rain here in norther Virginia this spring. Like many of my neighbors that have 5-10 acre lots (we have 8.5 and mow 4 plus), I ended up with grass that was almost 2 feet (over 22 inches) tall by May! I started string trimming, but that's pretty tiring, so I finally fired the up the Max Zoom, raised the deck to its highest setting and hoped for the best. It cut the entire yard and the engine (B&S 7000 25 HP) didn't bog down once. That made a believer out of me. As for the rest: the steering is far better than ANY commercial ZT I have ever used; the clutch and hydro system both seem to be high mid-grade and work very well so far; the deck design is superior to many commercial ZTs, especially my old Toro 7-gauge; the cut has been even every time; the controls are simple and well laid out; the gas tank is an ideal size for a prosumer mower and it even has an hour meter and gas gauge. This is a very well thought out machine for the $.

I bought the mower last november and I have had a charging problem that now is back to another warranty worker to repair. All I can say is do not buy a mower from a big chain and expect anyone to repair it in any amount of time. You will wait for weeks. Buy your mower from a Ariens dealer and he will repair it quickly. What a night mare. I will never buy an Ariens again as the parts take weeks to get for warranty problems

Comments about Ariens Max Zoom 60:

Bought the Max Zoom 60 after purchasing a 12 acre lot with about 8 acres of grass to mow. Had problems day one with the engine. It would not run at full speed, as if it was not getting enough fuel. I reduced the throttle to about 75% and it would run and cut fine but not as quick as it could be.

Used it for about 5 weeks and the engine then ran rough and would not idle - as if it were getting too much fuel. Called the local service shop and they have 3 week wait AFTER it arrives at the shop.

I had high hopes for this mower but so far the Kohler 25 HP engine, which is not Ariens' fault, has been a major disappointment.

Comments about Ariens Max Zoom 60:

This is my second review, first review was 5/21/2012. After 4 years of use and over 300 hrs I must say that the Max Zoom 60" is by far the best mower I have ever used. Starts every time, have not had to change battery once, however I have had to change batteries in my car and truck in that time. Cuts great and handles great even in tight areas. Only "wish" I have would be to have foam filled front tires so tire pressure won't be a problem. Would also be nice if Ariens made some ground attachments. I put a liquid sprayer and a broadcast spreader on mine. Mower must do more than just cut grass.

This mower is the best on the market for the money

Comments about Ariens Max Zoom 60:

I have owned my mower for 5 years now and I have only had one issue (and it was operator error by a friend of mine). We mow @ 5 acres and we can get that completed in 2-2.5 hours depending on how wet the ground is. It takes some getting used to and you have to learn how to "mow" your yard if you have hills/slopes. I laugh at the people that spend the money on some of the other commercial brands and then they say they can go 10 mph. Good luck doing that in most yards. Ariens is the best mower on the market!

Comments about Ariens Max Zoom 60:

I purchased the max zoom 60 with the Kawasaki 26hp motor 2 years ago for mowing my 6 acre homestead. This thing is truly a beast. It has put up with seriously unshirted Haides and asked for more. I am very careful about maintenance, but have never had a problem. Cuts thick tall johnson grass like a speed freak with a machete. I have several Ariens implements and have yet to be let down.

Comments about Ariens Max Zoom 52:

I really like the performance of the 54" Max Zoom. It has really cut down on my mowing time, but it comes with a few problems. After a few months, my fuel tank gauge started leaking. Not a big deal, just keep the tank below 3/4 tank and you never notice it. I took it to an authorized dealer for warranty repair, but he told me he didn't think he could repair it.

About a month later the hydraulic tank started leaking, still not a big deal. What's a couple drops under the mower? Wrong, leak kept getting worse. The belt for the mower deck finally jumped off last week, probably because of the hydraulic fluid leaking all over the drive pulley. My wide finally made me take it to the repair shop. I have two oil slicks in my garage now.

The Arien dealer said he can have it back to me in two weeks. Good thing because I'm mowing two acres with a push mower and it is getting old. I really miss that mower. It sounds like a terd, but for the money, it's really a good deal?

Comments about Ariens Max Zoom 52:

The mower was delivered in ready to go condition. Just add gas and go. Just one complaint. The drive tires are a bit slippery. I have a slight slope to my yard and when I turn the rear tires lose traction and the mower slides sideways a bit. It was disconcerting when it first happened but I have learned to control it. It appears to be a sturdy machine but I have only 20 hours on it so my observations a limited.

Comments about Ariens Max Zoom 52:

I have about 65 hrs on this machine since purchase last August. It has performed to my expectations in all areas but one. The rear tires are way too small for the weight of the unit. As a result, they frequently lose traction on moderate inclines and just spin when starting from a stop, especially in reverse. Otherwise the engine power is very adequate and the cutting is smooth and even. I would recommend it even with the small wheels for those without any slopes or inclines in their yard.

Had a Sears rider for 10 years - couldn't imagine spending nearly $5K for a mower. Finally took the plunge last year - wish I'd done it 10 years ago. Lawn is 2 acres with lots of trees - this ZTR cuts time required by more than 50%. Koehler engine is terrific.

Comments about Ariens Max Zoom 48:

The ZOOM 48 is a great size. Easy to fit through my fence gate openings and has sufficient power for cutting down high grass wet or dry. This mower is great on mostly flat surface lawns. Very easy to operate. It`s a knee saver with my arthritis. I can ride and get the job done fast for a great looking lawn.

Comments about Ariens Max Zoom 48:

Have owned the Max zoom 48 for 8 months now and love it. I like the heavy duty deck and frame, Kawasaki engine, and smooth controls. Cuts grass with ease and is very comfortable. I added the mulch kit and headlights and feel like this is the perfect mower for me. Cannot really suggest any changes to this product which is unusual for me! Highly recommend.

Comments about Ariens Max Zoom 48:

I bought my Max Zoom 48 last year it is the first zero turn mower I have owened or use. I have a large area with lots of trees and obstacls to mow around ,this mower has cut the time way down compared to my previous conv. lawn tractor style mower. So far the unit has performed well with no down time.

My MAX Zoom 48 Does The Job!

Comments about Ariens Max Zoom 48:

The 48" deck is great for my tightly landscaped 2 acre Southern lawn. This is my first Zero Turn. I only regreat that I wasted my time and money on all those chain store riding mowers. I feel that this Ariens Max Zoom will outlast at least two of the other brands I have been wrestling with.

Thanks for providing a quality product.
