this tiller starts easy, runs smooth, tills clay very well, even cut sod with this little guy, that was some work. might not recommend for that. used it on my neighbors overgrown garden beds and this cut thru like butter, kicking out rocks and roots, in 10 minutes I was done. cut in another 8x16 feet of well established sod into my garden this year. this thing will do it if your ready.

Drive belt will not stay on pulley. Either the belt is to long or something else is wrong. To operate the unit for more than a few minutes, I have removed the protective yield to facilitate placing the belt on the pulley.

After attempting to start the unit for only the second time, this exercise was not successful. Returned unit to Home Depot and had to make an advance payment, around $40, to secure warranty repair - coverage. Not sure whose policy this is, but it is not acceptable. Upon picking up the unit after repairs were made, bad carb, I had to argue long and HARD, to receive a refund. Customer Service? Not up to my standards.

Rather than return the unit to Home Depot for service, I'll just "Grin and Bare it"!

I've given up on the unit. Once started and with the belt still on the pulley, the unit is fully functional.

Comments about Ariens Front Tine Tiller:

2nd yr using the Compact 24 and it still a one pull to start no matter the cold. Easy to change to 2 wheel drive if required. Throw wet snow and all the other. The only improvement I would like to see is a joy stick for the chute .
Yes I recommend the product and would buy it again. My Brother inlaw is waiting for me to sell my house so he can get the machine!

Comments about Ariens Front Tine Tiller:

I did a lot of research into rototillers before making this purchase and I am glad with my choice. I have been able to till through sod and over field stones fairly easily. I use the drag bar for the purpose that it was meant and it makes it much easier to handle. I have used many rear tine tillers as well and they have not performed as well as this tiller. The belt has slipped once but easy to repair in the field. Great product! MADE IN THE USA!!!!

Comments about Ariens Front Tine Tiller:

This is my 3rd season with this little workhorse and I couldn't have made a better decision. I have a 40ft x 110ft garden that is constantly growing veggies and I owe it all to this tiller...I almost bought a larger tiller but this one does the work of a tiller twice its size! It's easy to start (one pull!!!!), well constructed, easy to service, hard working....I could go on and on.

If you want a tiller that will work with you and not against you...think no more...go buy this one!!!!

As a whole...Great machine

Comments about Ariens Front Tine Tiller:

After using my tiller for 2 springs, I am very pleased with it. Starting, unsurpassed. Starts on the first pull every time, including the "virgin" start. I've used it to till my established garden area, new garden area with rocks and breaking sod up for flower gardens and fruit vine beds. Works like a little giant with plenty of power. I was totally impressed. The only thing I found to be slightly flawed are the wheel bars could be made of a bit stronger steel. When extended fully out, they did bend a little, which I had to bend them back. After many hours of use, I wouldn't hesitate to buy another Ariens.

Easy starting

Comments about Ariens Front Tine Tiller:

5 star for easy starting.

I agree w/ the other review, that there should be a trigger lock w/ a quick release for controlling the tines.

The only other down fall is when I tried to till in a bunch of leaves they get jambed up in between the depth control and wheels.

Comments about Ariens Front Tine Tiller:

I have had this tiller for one year and my experience has been nothing less than perfect. The tiller has plenty of power and cranks up on the first pull every time that I have used it. I was looking for a tiller that didn't have a briggs and stratton engine and I feel very fortunate that I found the Ariens tiller with the Subaru engine. I highly recommend this tiller to anyone who is in the market for a very dependable and powerful machine.

i bought this tiller to use in my garden for tilling between rows to keep weeds down. i have also used it in the flower beds along the house and it has just been a great tiller i would definitely recommend this tiller to anyone who wants a lite weight easy to use tiller. The Subaru motor on it is the best in class for small engines, very quiet but powerful.

I tilled almost 3000 square feet of dirt between my two garden plots. This machine has plenty of power and the ease of operation made it a breeze. For what it is the gear selection mechanism worked fine. Despite the fact that I have worked the soil in at this location for the past 5 yrs. there is no shortage of rocks in the upstate NY soil. The stock shear pins on the tines actually both broke within the first hour. But the extra two that were supplied seem to be harder and have held up just fine.
I purchased this tiller because sadly I ruined the engine on the one that my grandfather used.
I anticipate my grandson having the opportunity to ruin the engine on this one.
Great product!

Something in the Gear shift system broke in the first 10 hours of use. It will no longer shift in to reverse. The shift points on the lever no longer match what gear it is in. There was no phone support as to an maintenance /repair manual and how to order parts to repair it. That said to ship it back and they would repair it at my expense. The shipping both ways was more than a new tiller.

The ground clearance between the wheels is low and it high centers on uneven ground like raised beds.

Some issues

By

Comments about Ariens Rear Tine Tiller:

Runnning my third season in a smaller 40 x 40 garden. The lock adjustment on the main handle is a terrible design as it is a weack piece of toothed metal that rusts and doesnt hole. The pin that holds the transmission controll failed. Terrible design here too. The pin poped out and finally just failed. Now the engine loses power when i engage the tilling process. The engine vocilatetes up & down so I need to check into some possible maintetnenece issue. The gas is good, the tines are clear , has oil and was greased. The air filter looks clean but may be the culprit. The Subaru engine has been great , lots of power and starts right up all the time. Doesnt seem to get as deep as I would like. Still , the price was right for the quality. Home Depot purchase.

Comments about Ariens Rear Tine Tiller:

Used this tiller for one season and then the belt broke. Local dealer became incensed when I asked him for an estimate and told me to take it elsewhere for repair. Next closest repair center is 30 miles away.

I did not purchase this tiller for only one season of work.

Definitely not what I thought I was getting.

We work with what I would call medium size garden. The tiller gets down deep and works the soil up nice and fine. The cultivator was a real pleasant surprise, when I got the rolls spread out by saving alot hoeing time.

This product's is designed very well

Comments about Ariens Rear Tine Tiller:

Engine starts on first pull. The frame and tines are designed well. The overall construction is excellent. There are two drawbacks: the shifting from one gear to another, you have to rock the unit to shift into another setting, and the engine pulsing up and down when under a load.

Comments about Ariens Rear Tine Tiller:

I have had my tiller through an entire season now and it has done a great job for me. I had to flip the throttle as it was installed upside down but that is my only complaint. It starts quickly and has no problem with fairly heavy tasks. The Subaru engine is very reliable!

I have only one possible improvement suggestion:

gear up the transport speed. It is a slow mover going from the house to the garden. I love the machine!

Sure beats the old front tine tiller that I had.

Comments about Ariens Rear Tine Tiller:

I've use a front tine tiller ever since I started gardening. It was getting to the point where I was going to stop gardening because it was so much work. I decided to give this tiller a try and I am glad I did. It has made the job so much easier. I can till my garden in way less time. I can go back over the garden to knock down the weeds with way less effort. I even made my garden bigger. Also, this tiller starts super easy. One pull on the starter rope. Now I can still enjoy fresh vegetables.

Tiller has worked well.

Comments about Ariens Rear Tine Tiller:

I have found the Ariens tiller to be a solid perfomer. It is heavy enough to do tough tilling in the yard and garden without being too big and unwieldy.
The reversilbe tines and forward and reverse gears make work and transport easy; although, it can be hard to shift from one gear to another at times. The Subaru engine is great. For the price, I think this is an excellent tiller.
