This snow blower has more than paid for itself this winter. Starts on the first pull every time. I needed a small snow blower for clearing snow from my deck. Shoveling and tossing snow over a 4 foot high railing was backbreaking.
A couple of nit picks:
* Filling the gas tank can be a bit of a chore, a funnel or a long spout on your gas can is needed.
* The On/Off fuel valve is not very accessible.

That said, my only complaint is the accessory Single Stage Sno-Thro Cover Part Number: 73801100. Looking at the Ariens photo, it shows the cover completely covering the snow blower. This is NOT true, the elastic bottom does NOT fit properly... It does not cover the front paddles, the front housing, and the wheels are also totally exposed. Based on the quality of Ariens products I am surprised they are selling this poor fitting accessory. I understand this cover fits other Ariens single stage models but at least be upfront in your description to the customer. Save your money, get a inexpensive tarp and a couple of bungee cords.

Purchased from Home Depot, used the Ariens Snow Path twice. After a snow fall of ~4" went to use again. Could not after multiple attempts, get the machine to start. Took it back to Home Depot where they too couldn't get it to start. At first they wanted to send it off for repair, but I pointed out that it was under 2 weeks old and that this was unacceptable. It took some convincing, but they eventually refunded my money. After talking with coworkers, will go and get a Honda.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136R:

Only things lacking on this unit is the location of the oil fill (very low and no instructions on how full to fill it as the dip stick has no markings. Also the choke switch isn't very sturdy.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136R:

Performs as advertised. Only two issues I have are in the design of determining if the choke is on or off as is confusing. Needed to simply print choke on or off not the just visual image of which is which. The second issue is more of a concern as the manual indicated not to push "primer bulb" more than twice to start cold engine - that didn't work with my mower as need to push 5 or 6 times to start engine.

I missed out last buying a snowblower last year, because everytime I looked everyone was sold out of anything & everything. My Ariens does it all including clearing the end of my driveways after the plow trucks would go by an pile the snow an ice up. It starts on one pull everytime i've used it. I would highly recommend an Ariens for anyone looking for a snowblower even over a Toro brand.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136R:

We have only had our Ariens pathPro 136 since Christmas 2014, but we did get to test it in heavy 11-inch snow and it did a great job. My husband cleared our driveway and two neighbors that day. He started when the snow was already about 11 inches so he had to make narrow paths and go slow but he did all three drives in around 45 minutes (then had to do ours again because it had snowed another 4 or 5 inches while he was talking with the neighbor after which he got busy clearing the other two drives.) We had some trouble with the choke but the neighbor helped us understand how it works and now it starts great and does the job well. We have the bare-bones machine, no electric start or anything else fancy but we are very happy with our purchase (actually my husband's Christmas present).

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136R:

I bought the Pro 136 principally based upon other reviews. I had a larger snow blower with ballon-style inflatable tires that was not easy to maneuver (turns). The Ariens solved that problem with its light weight and smaller, hard tires. It removes snow efficiently, though I have not used it for an amount greater than 6 inches. I paid a few dollars more for the electric start, but have not found that advantageous. It requires an extension cord and since I like to start outside of the garage, I need a 25 ft. cord handy. For me the pull start is less hassle. I wish the model had a mechanism to turn the shoot right or left. Overall, I'm pleased and would recommend the Pro 136.

Died after one season

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136R:

Bought mine during the Great Snowpocalypse in Michigan early Jan 2014. After some initial difficulties getting to know my first snowblower, it worked fantastic! Absolutely loved taking on Mother Nature. (Our 2014 snowfall was twice the annual average.) Probably used it 10-20 days last winter

Enter Jan 2015. In spite of fresh gas and garage temperatures in the low 30s, it won't start. Manual? Nothing. Electronic start? Nothing.

When it worked, it was great (hence 5* for Performance), but I don't think an annual visit to the repair shop is a reasonable expectation for a $400 snowblower.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136R:

Purchased my 208 model last December just prior our record-breaking winter snowfall. This unit could handle the heaviest of snowfalls, and would even go though the snow the plows pushed-in off the street. This unit can really throw the snow quite a distance too. Mine has always started on 1-2 pulls. Never have plugged the output shute. Only difficulty has been restarts if I stalled it out (end of driveway dense stuff). I found that you have to re-apply the choke. Per an earlier comment about the difficulty with oil filling, I have for years used a cleaned-out dish soap container for my small engines which allows you to "squirt" the oil into the fill neck, and control the oil flow.

I was very disappointed with my Arien's snow blower. I purchased it in November, 2014 after researching snow blowers online. Many people gave it good reviews, the price was middle of the road, so I bought it. I never did have to use it until the end of February 2015 when we received 16 inches of snow in 3 different storms that week. The snow blower would stop and start but would never run correctly. Home Depot picked it up, and looked things over but couldn't find anything wrong so they returned it to me. After trying it on 3 different days and it wouldn't stay on, I returned it to the store where they were gracious enough to give me my money back since the warranty had expired. We are in the middle of another snowstorm tonight and I don't have a snow blower, so I will have to shovel. I truly believe this blower was a lemon and had something wrong from the beginning. I am very disappointed. I also do not like the fact that the choke has at least 3 positions that you have to put it in before the machine will start. I didn't even know that because it wasn't in the direction book. An employee of Home Depot told me that after he fiddled with it on his own.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136E:

I bought this product from Home Depot after finally giving up on shoveling snow. This was considered a entry level product but was supposed to be able to handle over a foot of snow. After one winter I would highly recommend this entry level product to throw snow.

It is easy to use and can definitely throw some snow. The only downside is why it is an entry level product it would be nice if you could buy attachments to upgrade select items on it so you can slowly increase the capability of the unit without breaking the bank. So for example it would be nice if could buy a better handle to change the direction the snow is thrown without stopping and bending over.

Still a good product nonetheless.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136E:

Winter is FINALLY over here in Ohio and I am SO thankful for having the foresight to purchase my Ariens snow blower before Thanksgiving last year. For the past couple years our Ohio winters have been as bad as ever in my lifetime. I had decided to be prepared this winter for old man winter and Ariens helped me do just that. When I picked up my new Ariens snow blower still in the box all I had to do was take it out of the box and install the handle. It has an electric start which is literally a life saver at my age. The directions were entirely easy to follow. I am SO, SO happy for my new Ariens snow blower I am ALMOST looking forward to next winter. Well....... almost. Let me enjoy the warm sunshine, BBQ and the smell of fresh cut grass this summer first after which I will definitely be ready to take on old man winter head to head next winter. Thanks Ariens for producing a well built snow blower I can be proud of for a number of winters to come.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136E:

Sometimes it starts sometimes it doesn't. Seems that it overheats and I have to try to start the darn thing again about 15-30 minutes after. The gas cap falls inside thank goodness it is attached with a cord. And where you have to poor the oil in is awkward to get to. And it seems like it doesn't go far down enough to get the snow. I snow blow once then have to go back around and get the rest.

I wish you had a buyback program I would return it!

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136E:

I purchased this unit as a replacement for an old MTD single stage thrower. While this unit has more power and ability to "throw" farther, I liked the MTD better because the chute control was a crank at the operators handle. With the Ariens, you must stop, walk to the side of the unit, swing the chute in the proper direction, then back to the control lever. Each pass this must be repeated. I would like to see that feature incorporated in the next generation. Other than that, the unit performs well, starts on first pull (tried the electric start and that was fine too), and throws even the most wet sloppy snow that nature can toss your way.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136E:

Overall, its okay. Like the small size to fit through the doorway. A little harder to start than anticipated. Taking a lot more pulls on the cord and pressing the priming pump. Have not tried the electric start yet but would recommend. Wife can use but cannot start by pull cord. Needs a short warm up time. Need to hang on to the handle as it pulls a little. Chute turns stiffy, will try some lube. Balance okay.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136E:

This is a good snow blower for light/medium duty. I have used it numerous times on a large driveway and it makes me glad I purchased it every time I use it. The only issue I have had with it is that it is not quite powerful/large enough to throw heavy wet snow. We've had ten or twelve snowfalls since I purchased it and there were only two for which this snowblower proved insufficient.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 136E:

I have only had this snow blower for about 2 winters so I really can't give it a better rating in durability then what I did. My major hang up with this was you have to turn the discharge chute by hand (manually) when you turn around in opposite direction. It does start fairly easy (recoil start), usually on the first or second pull. I only used the electric start once when I flooded the engine by pushing primer bulb to many times, follow the directions because it does flood very easily. I do recommend you either purchase the remote chute discharge kit (which I did) and bolt it on or buy the snow blower with it already attached. It does make it a lot nicer to use.

I love machines that are well built and the Path-Pro 208 really is. I looked at several brands and read all the reviews I could. The Path-Pro is sold in this market by Home Depot but only on line probably because they sell Toro in their stores so I purchased this one without actually laying hands on one. Easy to start, easy to handle and throws even wet heavy snow well. The 208cc engine has plenty of power. I just hope we get more snow soon so I can give this one another work out. This has to be the best single stage I have ever used or looked at. Thanks to all the folks at Ariens that make these great machines.

Awesome Power at 9,500 feet of elevation

By

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 208R:

The Ariens Single Stage 208cc Snow Blower is the best Single Stage we have ever used. I have a snow Removal company in Summitt County Colorado we can get up to 500 inches of snow per Season. We remove snow from several decks on houses and Single Stage Snow throwers are the only way to go. Over the years I have purchased several other brands of snow throwers and non of them have ever worked as well as the 208 Path Pro. I always thought The Toro was the best until I tried the Ariens 208. Its 4 stroke motor always start even when it tis below 0 degrees, on the first pull. It will remove 12" of wet spring time snow at a normal walking pace. Most of the time I can walk behind using one hand and I never have to lift up on the handle like all my old Toros. Next year we will have retired all the Toros and we will only be using the Ariens Single Stage for all of our Decks and Side walks. I can clear 12" of snow off a 600 Sq' Deck in less than 10 minutes or less. The power from this motor seems to be much more than an average sized motor. We also have the same Snow Thrower in the 136cc motor and it is about equal with its performance. We will be buying more next year because it makes Deck snow removal simple and fun. Very simple design nothing fancy to break.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 208R:

This is my first season with the new Pro Path. It hasn't been a bad winter but with the 4-5 times I've used it, its worked beautifully. I can't comment on durability just yet but Ariens is a well trusted brand. It just sliced through the 10 inches of snow we received yesterday in the east. It is fairly simple to start and has always started for me on the first pull. I know someone else with the electric start and he doesn't think its worth the extra $. However, f you have trouble pulling an engine cord, that would be recommended. It swipes fairly clean in my opinion. We live adjacent to a main road so they always plow nasty snow into our driveway. Wet and icy snow is not an issue for this machine. Set-up was easy and the Ariens brand is easily the most aesthetically pleasing with the Orange & Black. Save yourself the time researching because I already did. Buy this!

We have had unending snow storms this year (2015) here in PA. My new Ariens 938031 SS21 has exceeded my expectations of a single stage snow thrower. The 208CC engine provides enough power to handle various depths of snow and even performs well in wet snow. Far better than my previous small engine yard machine. It's a joy not having to use an oil-gas mix. Easily stored. I use the thrower to clean not only my small driveway and parking spaces but also the driveways and parking spaces of my two neighbors. Would highly recommend this thrower.

I have a two car driveway of paver stones. I have used it in wet sloppy snow and fluffy snow about 9 inches deep. While it didn't throw the wet snow very far, I was able to clear my driveway easily. The fluffy stuff was thrown very well and it never bogged in anything. It even carved through the wall of snow from the plow.

Super impressed with how powerful it is and how easy it is to store. I have a one car garage and can squeeze it around my jeep and when it's not snowing I have a ceiling lift that can pull 250lbs.

Highly recommend this single stage for everything Long Island has had thrown at it this winter.

I purchased the Path Pro 208 E mainly to clear off my deck however it has been used for a whole lot more. The first day I used it a deep load of heavy slushy snow slid off my solar pannels on to my deck. I fired up the Path Pro thinking that it wasn't going to be able to handle the deep heavy snow and to my surprise it ripped through the cement like stuff with ease.
Since then I have used it often with the wild winter we have been having in Vermont. The E start is great but it also fires up with one pull of the recoil. A great little unit.

Both of my new machines have performed terribly. My case is on file with you I would assume. My 28" is frozen up and will not start. Both had problems from day 1. I would never buy another Ariens ever again. It's laughable that you would even send me a request for a review.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 208E:

So far so good, glad it has an electric starter as it's not too easy to start with the pull cord. Other than that it worked well, can't give it any higher than good as only time will tell.

I bought this blower for sidewalks and my deck, which is rather large. Also used it for pathway from house to garage. This unit did a great job for a single stage.

I'm 50 year old woman who lives on a corner lot. To much pavement to shovel so I needed something easy for me to use. I read reviews and shopped around. This was the best fit for me. On my first use it was so easy to use. I am very happy with this product.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 208E:

It stalled on me once this winter..needed to get carbeurator cleaned and it worked fine after that...also the chute rotation got stuck in a certain position and I was only able to rotate it at limited angles..i.e. the chute pointed more toward me on left and right..I couldn't direct it forward or on angles that were away from me so at those times the snow was sort of shooting up at me over my shoulders and I would get swith the snow at times depending on the direction of the wind. But overall product worked really well for its compact size and is powerful also. It got the job done pretty great except when there was the heavy snow at bottom of driveway from the plows. I would have to move the blower back and forth to cut through it. But I also understand I would have had to get a blower witht he blades that would cut right throught hat stuff

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 208E:

This thing clears all but the worst snowfalls. I also have a huge 2-stage blower but have rarely had to use it since getting this one. We just had a storm that dropped a little snow and then turned to freezing rain making a nice hard crust on top of the snow but this machine chewed right through it like nothing. Easy to start, maneuver and just overall does a great job. I'm glad I went for a new machine after years of dealing with bargain craigslist used machines.

Leaves a little snow on the sidewalks, but that's nothing serious. It moves a lot of snow. My only issue is with the snow shoot in that when directed too far right or left, the snow doesn't blow away good. I have other Ariens products and have for over 30 years.

I bought this machine to replace "the Beast," a 15 y.o. Craftsman single-stage, two-stroker which, despite a cracked motor, a sheared-off muffler, and many other parts missing or inoperable, still started and threw snow. But, Chicago is having a bruising winter, so why tempt fate? I bought the Ariens because of their reputation, the fact that is is mostly American made and they offered a larger engine (208cc). I have used it 3 times on snows ranging from 2 to 9 inches. Overall, I am happy with the choice but have a few nits to pick.

Delivery and Assembly: The machine was delivered on-time and in good shape. Assembly was straightforward (about 20 minutes) and all the parts and hardware were there. The only nit here is that the "tools required" list states you need a 7/16 and a 3/8" wrench or ratchet. Nothing in the assembly of my machine required a 7/16" wrench. No problem but it makes you wonder if you missed something.

Quality Control: The motor, housing and auger mechanisms appear to be top-notch. But, my machine has a small crack in the gas cap. This won't prevent it from functioning but, c'mon. Also, the fuel shut-off valve on my machine will only turn about a ¼ turn and that's with great difficulty. I am afraid to apply any more torque for fear of breaking the plastic knob.

Design: Nice overall design. The unit has only a partial plastic cowling which allows for easy access to the motor. Gas, oil, spark-plug, primer bulb and starter (electric and pull) are all where you think they should be. My unit has a remote chute controller which is thoughtfully placed on the right-side handle and works well. The machine is designed with a metal engine guard at the rear which sticks out about 7 inches. This is a double-edged sword. The guard does protect the engine (somewhat) and is handy if you are lifting the machine off the back of a truck. When tipped backward the machine rests on this guard at about a 45 degree angle—convenient for oil changes and working on the auger. But, be aware, this guard jutting out the back makes it nearly impossible to get this machine up or down stairs. Bad news for those who keep their snow blowers in a basement in real cold weather and may be a downright deal-breaker for those with raised patio decks.

Performance: The Path Pro has started easily on the times I've used it. The electric start works fine or else 1-2 pulls on the cord. Of course it has been a relatively balmy 20 degrees in Chicago this week. The real test will come at 10 below. Too bad I can't keep it in the basement on those cold nights (see above). The one weird thing about starting this machine is that even an already warmed-up motor needs a full choke to start. As for snow removal the Ariens had no problem with snow up to about 9 inches. The pull-along effect of the auger diminishes as the snow heightens. I had no problems with clogging. Ariens claims a snow throw of "up to 35 feet" – maybe, with the chute straight ahead and a strong tail wind. Practically, however, expect something in the range of 8 to 12 feet. The Path Pro is happiest on smooth level concrete. If you pick up a chuck of ice or roll over a crack in the sidewalk you will know it immediately as the machine will lurch more violently than one would expect. Otherwise, it is easy to handle and maneuver even in tight spaces. The Ariens does a pretty good job of "getting down to the pavement" revealing about 50% to 60% of pavement after a single pass. A second pass is necessary to get all the way down.

Although there are some minor problems, the good far outweigh the bad. I am happy with the Path Pro and would recommend it. I think it is a worthy successor to "the Beast."

My new Path-Pro snowthrower does not do a very good job of clearing snow from my driveway. It appears to me to be a design flaw -- the augers do not contact the pavement sufficiently. I returned my Path-Pro to the dealer (Ace Hardware of La Crosse) and the service manager told me they had received similar complaints from others. I left it there, and after checking back in a few days, I was told an Ariens representative had taken my Path-Pro back to the factory to see if they could devise a fix. Ace gave me a loaner to use. That was about 3 weeks ago and I still haven't heard anything. The loaner doesn't do a much better job of clearing snow. I paid $606.61 in good faith for my new snowthrower and I would like to have some resolution to this problem. I would either like to have my Path-Pro back with assurance that the defect has been fixed, or I would like my money back.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 208EC:

I've managed to make it through 67 Midwestern winters without a snow blower but last winter, with all the snow in Northern Illinois, I'd had enough. I purchased my Ariens this past fall and even though we only had 4 major snows this year, I was happy not to shovel anymore. This electric-start machine fires up easily, has great power, clears the driveway and walk very well, and saves me from injury to my back. Now, when the snow plow clogs up the entrance to my driveway – after I've already cleared the drive - I just smile.

I couldn't be happier with my Ariens and would recommend it to anyone in the market for a snow blower.

I live near the Lake Michigan coastline and I'm so glad I have my Path-Pro to clear my driveway and walk. It has handled all types of snow and even does a great job on the end-of-the-driveway snow that the snowplows leave behind. I highly recommend it!

Quality product. My first snow blower and everything about it is very easy. The electric start and the lever shute control were the two extras that set this model apart and both work flawlessly. The shute did get clogged once but that was plowing through the deep mess of snow and ice left by the plow and was very easy to clear.

Overall, I'm very happy with this purchase.

Comments about Ariens Path-Pro 208EC:

This is a really nice snow blower. The only negative issues I have with it is the chute is somewhat difficult to rotate and when the machine is not used for a couple of weeks, I have to push the primer bulb as many as twelve times before the engine will start. I like this snow blower well enough that if I were to buy another one today, I would buy another Ariens just like this one.
